Photo Permit Policy and Application

This policy is for photographers or video companies requesting to use Stanley Park commercially or for the sole purpose of using the park for photography. Issuance of permits requires approval from the Managing Director or designee. A permit is not required for unplanned or informal photography.  A permit is required for photoshoots that will have a daily impact on regular park use (multiple shoots, like wedding pictures, School/Senior/Prom pictures, extensive props, etc.) Park reservations must be made before the issuance of a permit.

Fees:

  • Annual Permit - $250
  • 1 Hour Permit - $75
  • Buy 2, Get 1 Free - $150

Please Note: Proof of Insurance Coverage May Be Required.

Photo Permit Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is there a fee?

A: Stanley Park is a non-profit, private park that does not receive any local, state, or federal funding or tax dollars. The fee covers our administrative costs to implement and enforce this policy. Any additional funds will help us keep Stanley Park beautiful and a desirable place to enjoy and take photos.

2. Q: Do I need a permit if an individual takes an informal photo in Stanley Park?

A: No permit is needed.

3. Q: If I hire a Photographer to take photos of one or more family members?

A: Yes, a permit is needed

4. Q: If a Photographer sets up for all-day sessions or has multiple customers or props (Easter Bunny photos, weddings, engagements, prom, senior portraits, graduation, sports, or back-to-school set-up).

A: Yes, a permit is required.

5. Q: If the photography session is conducted in a location with a rental fee?

A: Yes, a permit is required, and reservation must be made and fees paid before issuance of a permit.

6. Q: I am a Nature Photographer and occasionally sell prints. Do I need a permit?

A: It depends; our interest is in covering our liability from commercial businesses operating in the parks.  So, this comes down to your intent.  If you come to the park to take some photos because that is a hobby you enjoy, then you are not operating a business, and no permit is required. Whether you sell an image, later on, is of no interest to us. If you are coming to the park to produce images for your business, then you are operating a business in the park, and the permit and liability insurance requirement would apply.

Additional Rules

  1. Photography sessions cannot interfere with regular operations of the park, and the permit issued does not preclude the general public access to the area being used.
  2. Production companies must comply with local and state regulations and possess liability insurance.
  3. Photographers or guests hiring a photographer/production company must have permits while conducting sessions. Permits should be presented to Park Rangers and Stanley Park Staff as requested.
  4. Photography Permits will not be issued if the request interferes with regular park operations or presents safety concerns.
  5. Drone photography is prohibited.
