Enchanted Oak

Stanley Park has an abundance Oak Trees which stand tall and strong. There is one that is known as the “Enchanted Oak”. Back in the late 1940’s, it was brought to Frank Stanley Beveridge’s attention that a large Oak Tree showed signs of disease and decay. It probably would be best to take it down, per the advice of two specialists. Being that Mr. Beveridge had a true passion in horticulture, he felt that this tree needed some TLC. He wanted to give the tree a chance to survive. The specialists were contracted to remove the diseased section and patch it with some cement and stabilize it with wiring. The Enchanted Oak Tree is still standing and is believed to be over 200 years old. It has withstood the test of time and holds true to his belief that its presence symbolizes strength, endurance, and perseverance; as well as representing the highest of human qualities and those of nature. It serves as an inspiration to all to strive to overcome, and to succeed, despite difficulties.

The Enchanted Oak is located between the Beveridge Pavilion and the Wildflower Garden.
