Having taken Westfield State biology students into the Park for 50+ years, Dave will help participants get familiar with some of the flora in the Park’s various habitats. He will focus on trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants or all three depending on the interest of the group. If you happen to have a field guide you’d like to practice with, feel free bring it along. Dave is Professor Emeritus of Biology at Westfield State University and is Secretary of the Springfield Naturalists’ Club. He is the author of two local floras, Flora of Springfield (2008) and Flora of Forest Park (2022).

In a collaborative effort between Stanley Park and the Greater Westfield Community, nine free Nature Workshops will be conducted in the 229-acre Wildlife Sanctuary* at Stanley Park this season.  We hope you take advantage of these opportunities to enjoy nature’s beauty.

The walks and workshops will meet at the main entrance sign to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary* located across from the recreation field unless otherwise noted.  Walks will cancel if there is heavy rain, unless otherwise noted. Wear hiking attire, sturdy boots/shoes, bring water, your field guides, binoculars and camera if you wish.
