The word “wasp” often conjures up fear, dread, displeasure, or even hatred. But these unbelievably diverse and vital insects are woefully misunderstood. From important pollinators to beneficial predators and parasitoids, there is a lot more to wasps that most people know. Science communicator, researcher, and photographer, Sloan Tomlinson will lead attendees through this fascinating and rarely glimpsed world. He will look at our amazing wasp diversity here in Massachusetts, to the great world beyond; where wasps inhabit virtually every habitat. Come and learn about the fascinating but sometimes macabre parasitoid wasps, maternal care where you’d least expect it, drama unfolding like a soap opera, and life cycles that put even our best science fiction to shame! Wasps are forever weird and wonderful misunderstood marvels.
